Sirach 36:1-17

A Prayer for God’s People

1Come to our aid, O God of the universe, and put all the nations in dread of you!
2Raise your hand against the heathen, that they may realize your power.
3As you have used us to show them your holiness, so now use them to show us your glory.
4Thus they will know, as we know, that there is no God but you.

5Give new signs and work new wonders; show forth the splendor of your right hand and arm;
6Rouse your anger, pour out wrath, humble the enemy, scatter the foe.
7Hasten the day, bring on the time;
8crush the heads of the hostile rulers.
9Let raging fire consume the fugitive, and your people's oppressors meet destruction.
10Gather all the tribes of Jacob, that they may inherit the land as of old,
11Show mercy to the people called by your name; Israel, whom you named your first-born.
12Take pity on your holy city, Jerusalem, your dwelling place.
13Fill Zion with your majesty, your temple with your glory.

14Give evidence of your deeds of old; fulfill the prophecies spoken in your name,
15Reward those who have hoped in you, and let your prophets be proved true.
16Hear the prayer of your servants, for you are ever gracious to your people;
17Thus it will be known to the very ends of the earth that you are the eternal God.

Psalm 80
Prayer to Restore God’s Vineyard

I.
1For the leader; according to "Lilies." Eduth. A psalm of Asaph.
2Shepherd of Israel, listen, guide of the flock of Joseph! From your throne upon the cherubim reveal yourself
3to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Stir up your power, come to save us.
4O LORD of hosts, restore us; Let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
II.
5LORD of hosts, how long will you burn with anger while your people pray?
6You have fed them the bread of tears, made them drink tears in abundance.
7You have left us to be fought over by our neighbors; our enemies deride us.
8O LORD of hosts, restore us; let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
III.
9You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove away the nations and planted it.
10You cleared the ground; it took root and filled the land.
11The mountains were covered by its shadow, the cedars of God by its branches.
12It sent out boughs as far as the sea, shoots as far as the river.
13Why have you broken down the walls, so that all who pass by pluck its fruit?
14 boar from the forest strips the vine; the beast of the field feeds upon it.
15Turn again, LORD of hosts; look down from heaven and see; Attend to this vine, 16 the shoot your right hand has planted.
17Those who would burn or cut it down-- may they perish at your rebuke.
18May your help be with the man at your right hand, with the one whom you once made strong.
19Then we will not withdraw from you; revive us, and we will call on your name.
20LORD of hosts, restore us; let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
Psalm 85
Prayer for Divine Favor

1For the leader. A psalm of the Korahites.
I.
2You once favored, LORD, your land, restored the good fortune of Jacob.
3You forgave the guilt of your people, pardoned all their sins. Selah
4You withdrew all your wrath, turned back your burning anger.
II.
5Restore us once more, God our savior; abandon your wrath against us.
6Will you be angry with us forever, drag out your anger for all generations?
7Please give us life again, that your people may rejoice in you.
8Show us, LORD, your love; grant us your salvation.
III.
9I will listen for the word of God; surely the LORD will proclaim peace To his people, to the faithful, to those who trust in him.
10Near indeed is salvation for the loyal; prosperity will fill our land.
11Love and truth will meet; justice and peace will kiss.
12Truth will spring from the earth; justice will look down from heaven.
13The LORD will surely grant abundance; our land will yield its increase.
14Prosperity will march before the Lord, and good fortune will follow behind.

Psalm 126
The Reversal of Zion’s Fortune

A song of ascents.
I.
1When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, then we thought we were dreaming.
2Our mouths were filled with laughter; our tongues sang for joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD had done great things for them."
3The LORD has done great things for us; Oh, how happy we were!
4Restore again our fortunes, LORD, like the dry stream beds of the Negeb.
II.
5Those who sow in tears will reap with cries of joy.
6Those who go forth weeping, carrying sacks of seed, Will return with cries of joy, carrying their bundled sheaves.
